#100HorrorMoviesIn92Days kicks off its sixth year 🎥, Make sense of our Horror Subgenre Chart 📈, & more!
Greetings Horrorverse readers! I’m back! Just in case you missed my last Horrorverse takeover, I’m Sarah Stubbs aka SpookySarahSays! I’m the founder of the #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days challenge, which is why we’re here today!
As the challenge enters its 6th year, its crazy to think how its grown. Born out of boredom during pre-vaccine/quarantine COVID, the challenge started as me and one other person. By year 2, it grew a bit more and each year it seems to grow and evolve more.
Despite the growth and changes, one thing has remained constant, the amazing core community of participants. Folks come and go but the Discord server has a core group who hang out all year and without them, this would be a fruitless project. One of my favorite things to come from this challenge (aside from watching some great movies), are the friends I’ve made. It sounds cheesy but it’s true.
The other more obvious part of the challenge that’s wonderful is getting out of my comfort zone to discover new to me horror movies. Every year, I feel like I come away with new favorites, and I really hope others do as well. Some of these favorites include The City of the Dead, Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, and November (2017).
Getting to explore the genre we all love so much is such a joy. I hope everyone participating has a great time this year! Be sure to use the hashtag #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days and come join the Discord server watch parties! Happy Watching!

IN THE NEWS
🩸 Friday the 13th returning with new “sequel film” and video game
The news we've all been waiting years for: a new Friday the 13th "sequel film" is in the works (as is a video game, but we're more excited for a film)! Also, on August 13th, get ready for Sweet Revenge, a Friday the 13th short directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn). Watch the trailer here.
🗓️ Shudder unveils August 2025 (US) lineup
As we head into the last full month of summer, Shudder’s August 2025 (US) lineup has been unveiled. With Clown in a Cornfield and The Twin, as well as classics like Urban Legend and Tourist Trap, being added to the service, plus Friday night watch parties, explore the full list and watch party schedule here.
🎉 Mother of Flies soars at Fantasia Film Festival
Huge congratulations to our friends The Adams Family for winning the Cheval Noir award for best film at this year’s Fantasia Film Festival! Their feature, Mother of Flies, buzzes its way to Shudder in 2026! [Variety]
🤡🌽Clown in a Cornfield physical release
After a successful theatrical run, Clown in a Cornfield will be available on 4K UHD Blu-ray Steelbook on September 16th. The film also lands on Shudder on August 8th.
🃏 The Jester 2 to premiere exclusive in theaters this September
Epic Pictures’ Dread Presents label is releasing The Jester 2 exclusively in theaters on September 15th and 16th. Theatergoers will be able to see exclusive behind-the-scenes content, such as chats with the cast and crew and the making of the film. You can purchase tickets here beginning August 15th.
Scary Movies XIII, the 13th edition of New York City’s premier showcase for the best in new genre (and genre-bending) cinema from around the globe, returning after a five-year hiatus. The 16-film series will take place from August 15 through August 21, with many special guests in attendance for Q&As.
The series will kick off with Opening Night selection It Ends from director Alexander Ullom, who coined the term “hangout horror” to describe his perversely entertaining and sneakily profound feature debut, following four friends as they gradually realize they’ve found themselves trapped on a seemingly never-ending journey. Closing night will feature two films specially selected to celebrate the 10th anniversary of horror streaming service Shudder: Bryan Bertino’s The Dark and the Wicked (2020), a Shudder release; and a 4K restoration of Harry Kümel’s Daughters of Darkness (1971), selected by drag artists The Boulet Brothers, hosts of Shudder’s competition series The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, who will present the film with a video introduction.
RIYL: THE CITY OF THE DEAD (1960)
Atmospheric, a little campy, and an appearance by Christopher Lee. The City of the Dead is a great example of 1960s horror. Here are some recs from a vastly underappreciated decade of horror films. Check out the list on Letterboxd.
WHAT TO WATCH
I'm a big critic of Tubi Originals (they're usually a Miss, not a Hit), but this was a blast! It started off with the usual family on a road trip of sorts, but quickly went off trail and turned into a big WTF type of film, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Go in blind! [Review by Brett] | ![]() |
The Once and Future Smash and End Zone 2 - This mockumentary and slasher pairing should be watched together starting with The Once and Future Smash. It's a fun and weird romp that normally isn't my jam but I really had a good time with it. Watching with a group also adds to viewing experience on this one! [Review by Sarah] | ![]() | ![]() |
We need more questions as film titles. What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice? is a fun, deranged romp about a widow Claire whose staff frequently vanishes. Geraldine Page acts her face off, as does Ruth Gordon as Alice, a former employer of one of the missing maids. Alice takes the vacant position as a way to investigate the disappearances. But it's only a matter of time before she arouses suspicion and becomes the target of Claire's sinister gaze. What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice? is an absolute standout from last year's #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days and an all-timer. [written by Bee] | ![]() |
I sense a 1969 theme here with my picks. The House That Screamed is another gem we just don't talk about at all. A secluded, all-girls school operates as the perfect playground for a rash of mysterious disappearances. The strict schoolmarm Señora Fourneau (Lilli Palmer) runs a tight ship, and she has her suspicions about what may be going on. It's another bygone era relic that's just plain fun. We need more fun in horror. [written by Bee] | ![]() |
The #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days Challenge returns for Its 6th Year. Born out of boredom during the lockdown phase of Covid, the challenge has grown exponentially and is an annual tradition among participants. It encourages folks to set aside watching only their comfort watches during spooky season and find new favorites from films they haven’t seen before. | ![]() |
LESSER KNOWN HORROR FAVORITES
Looking for something you haven't seen before? Here are some lesser known favorites that are perfect for the 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days Challenge!
HORROR SUBGENRE CHART by Bee Delores

I was thinking about horror subgenres the other day and how we would categorize them - do certain subgenres belong under another grouping? On a whim, I put together a shoddy subgenre chart for funsies. Well, Brett thankfully hopped in and mocked up a slicker design, and we thought we'd share today. We have everything from French Extremist to Splatter to Paranormal, Found Footage, and Vampire Flicks. Are we missing your favorite subgenre? Let us know!
TRAILERVILLE
Indie film, simply called Slasher (2025), piqued my interest yesterday when a teaser trailer circulated on Bluesky. A micro-budget film, it has everything I could want in a slasher. See for yourself! [written by Bee] |
The Conjuring's main series of films is about to take its final bow with The Conjuring: Last Rites. And now we have the official trailer, which makes it seem as though Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) might be meeting her end. Take my money! [written by Bee] |
