😁 David Bruckner (THE RITUAL, 2022’s HELLRAISER) will be taking over for Parker Finn as the director of the next SMILE film. Finn will be working on the POSSESSION remake, but will serve as a producer.
🧟♂️ Last week, we finally learned the title of the Radio Silence-directed, long-awaited fourth film in THE MUMMY franchise, the first since 2008's THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR. THE MUMMY: BOOK OF THE DEAD will release in theaters on October 15, 2027 and star Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
🤞 Be careful what you wish for. Curry Barker's OBSESSION is heading to Netflix on November 17th.
📺 If you're still looking for pre-Halloween frights or more films to add to your #100HorrorMoviesin92Days list (there's only one day left for both), the folks at Fangoria shared 13 must-watch films to check out on Shudder, while Horror Press has a list of 20 films from various streaming platforms.
🧠 With the recent release of video game HELLRAISER: REVIVAL, does Clive Barker think there's potential for new films and other concepts? Per his interview with Dread Central, you bet he does.
💃 Mumblings about a new JENNIFER'S BODY film have come and gone, but it looks like things are finally happening. Diablo Cody, who penned both films, has said that the sequel, JENNIFER'S BODY 2, is happening "imminently" and that Megan Fox is returning (with Amanda Seyfried possibly doing the same).
🪩 To what comes as no surprise, Amazon Prime Video has renewed Mike Flanagan's CARRIE for a second season. The Internet was mixed on the series after the first season's final episode, and they’re going beyond what happened at prom.
RIYL: HALLOWEEN (1978)
Nothing quite captures the terror that takes place on Halloween night like John Carpenter's 1978 classic Halloween. In the 45-plus years since the film terrified audiences, we've been treated to numerous others that have tried to replicate the scares (and some did succeed) first experienced when watching it, so the Horrorverse crew came together to share our picks. Check out our list on Letterboxd.

Although I celebrate Halloween all year long, there’s something special about horror that’s specifically around or about this most wonderful time of year.
The 31st Trick or Treater by Ben Farthing was intended to be read as a Halloween advent, and, as such, it was very effective. Thirty children, including the main character’s daughter Mary, disappeared on Halloween, and the next year, on October 1, one of them returned. And another on October 2nd. Each day raised the tension, and it was hard not to keep reading into the next chapter.
Benny Rose the Cannibal King by Hailey Piper is about a small town with one Boogeyman, and everyone has their own version of his story. He comes out only on Halloween, and a group of girls find themselves face to face with him in 1987 - a fun "kids on bikes" story that is scary and full of girl power moments. It’s also very short and easy to read in one sitting.
Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge is a folk horror with some slasher DNA. Every Halloween, in a small unnamed Midwestern town, a creature known as the “October Boy” or “Sawtooth Jack” rises, and five teenage boys compete to see who can take it down for the prize of being allowed to leave town (which no one is otherwise able to do) and a new home, car, and cash for his family who stays behind. There’s a movie, too, and I don’t always say this, but “the book was better.”
FILMS THAT TAKE PLACE AROUND / ON HALLOWEEN
Just in time for Halloween, the Horrorverse Crew has put together some films that take place around the holiday. So grab your candy and popcorn and pop one of these films on for the perfect Halloween night!
WHAT TO WATCH & TRAILERVILLE
If you ever woke up next to a dead (well, not dead, but murdered) person after a night of heavy partying, what would you do? DEAD GIVEAWAY, starring Ruby Modine (HAPPY DEATH DAY), heads to Digital on November 3rd.
Another Creepypasta story is heading to theaters! While only a teaser trailer, the film, THE THIRD PARENT, starring Rob Lowe, delivers the creeps. Read more about it on Macabre Daily.
When a film claims to be based on the legend of CROATOAN, we’re in! While the trailer for THE TOWN THAT TAKES seems to give too much away (or does it?), the mix of mystery, suspense, and (potentially) folk horror looks to be a good blend. What did you think of the trailer?
GORE-MET PAIRINGS

Movie: Halloween (1978)
Synopsis: Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween Night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again.
Why I Chose This Film: I chose Halloween (1978) because it is one of the first films people think of when it come to Halloween. It may not be the most autumnal feeling, but it's still a great pick and a classic!
Pairing Idea: There was only one recipe I could choose for this because it's one of my favorites that we've done on Geeks Who Eat. That's right, I'm talking about our Haddonfield Horseshoes. Horseshoes are an open-faced sandwich originating in Springfield, Illinois, United States. They consist of thick-sliced toasted bread (often Texas toast), a hamburger patty, French fries, and cheese sauce. The shared Illinois origins and a hot sauce blood spatter make this a perfect treat for Halloween night!
